What is the Ashford Park School Education Foundation?

The Ashford Park School Education Foundation (APSEF) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that supports the education of students at Ashford Park School through instructional investments, both in the classroom through curriculum enhancement programs, classroom materials and supplies, and additional professional development of our teachers and staff. APSEF also works on capital campaigns that will improve learning conditions and build additional educational opportunities for students at APS.

How does the Foundation operate?

The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors that is comprised of 12-14 parents, teachers, the principal, and other involved community members. Board members serve for 1 or 2 year terms. The Board is responsible for all business of the Foundation, including identifying the priority support initiatives for the school year, fundraising campaigns, communications, finances, and budgets.

Why should I donate money to public schools? Isn't that why I pay taxes?

While it is true that property taxes are the primary revenue source for the Dekalb County School District, these revenues are insufficient to provide the various enrichment programs that make our elementary schools among the best in the state and the nation. Our State’s changing economic landscape calls for forward thinking and a way to ensure we have future funding to develop new curriculum initiatives and provide professional development to meet the needs of our 21st century learners. Our fundraising will allow us to offset these budget cuts and ensure the breadth of programs required to provide the quality education we all want for our children.
